I bought open box and the salesman told me yes the original warranty still applied, so if that is not true than Best Buy employees are lying to customers or just making stuff up because they don't know or won't bother to know. I bought the Best Buy 2 year extended warranty just in case which best buy clearly says they cover open box and it's also a good idea because the warranty is prorated on the price so item price goes down warranty price goes down.
