Hi Senator! The VIZIO SmartCast Displays with Chromecast Built-in utilize Google Cast technology which allows access to thousands of applications. To watch your favorite applications such as Netflix or Hulu all you need to do is open the app on your smart phone or tablet and "cast" or "fling" the content to the display. You can still connect your Charter Spectrum to the display and use the remote to control the basic functions of the display such as power and volume.

You have to install the apps to watch streaming (It comes with the main ones at least) Amazon does not have an app for steaming on google. So yes you have to use Roku (Or Fire) to watch Amazon. If there is an App in the play store for your favorite streaming shows it will "Cast" to this TV.
