“If I connect my devices directly to the TV then connect sound bar to the optical audio out connection in order to allow the audio from various external devices to play through to the sound bar. Would Dolby Digital/DTS Studio Sound work in this set up?”

Yes if you select Bitstream format audio from TV through optical out.

This soundbar can accept Dolby Digital or DTS audio input, so there shouldn't be any issues with this. However, we cannot guarantee specific compatibility with the TV depending on how the TV will convert or handle that audio passthrough.
