Do you plug this in. How do you receive the call? null

You have to charge the phone before using, once charged you must register the hand set to the vtech base unit in order for it to work.

this is an extension phone, you need a compatible base unit that plugs into a phone jack. this phone is registered to the base unit and other than 120volt power to charge the phone it is wireless when in use, not sure of actual range, but it does work outside at least about 100 yards, maybe further.
