I think you can use them inter-changeably, but I don't use that feature as my cell phone isn't smart. Just a plain jane. But now that I have this V-tech phone, I really want to get a smart phone. You can transfer your calls from the home phone to the cell phone and vice versa.

Once linked via bluetooh, hit the Cell1 button, enter the phone number and hit Cell1 button again to call. Note: hitting the talk button will pick up the home line and disable the call via the cell phone
