• It depends on the file type and the compatibility of certain file types with other applications. For example my image from Corel Paint won't open in GIMP.

• Yes. In fact, you can use the tablet or literally any application. (most of them probably isn't gonna work the way you want it to though, at least with the default settings.)

• I do not know about illustrator but yes pictures can be transferred to photoshop and also use in photoshop.
