“Since the lights are hardwired, does it supply power to the camera thus eliminating the need for the battery?”

Yes, it has a USB adapter outlet built into the light fixture that is weather-sealed. You don't even need the battery in the camera for it to work. HOWEVER, the light sensor is horrible, we had to return it after trying 2 different units. I suggest reading the reviews.
