According to the reps at Waterpik and their Youtube video you simply pull hard on the water reservoir until it pulls off. However, when I did this the plastic on the reservoir cracked where the little bumps that prevent it from sliding off have to go over each other. The plastic just isn't flexible enough. I sent pics to the Waterpik rep and they offered to replace it, but I had already returned it.
