Gen 4 drives differ from previous ones and will get hot under sustained use. It can benefit from a heatsink. That being said, if you are installing it in a laptop make sure to check how much room you have, or if your laptop has a built in cooling solution for it. It is not mandatory to have one, the drive will work as-is for 90% of usage cases without it so don't be too worried if you can't get one in there.

Please check with the PC/Laptop vendor whether the WD drive will fit and support the host device. For more information on the drive refer to the link: https://bit.ly/3QhPzot -Need Help? In your application you have to make sure that adding a heat sink doesn't make it too thick for the laptop. I'm not familiar with your model so I can't tell you yes or no
