Why such a short warranty ? Quality has gone down ? null

This is typical with mainstream drives.

Drive is for home use. These drives still will run for years under normal use. I have some in use 8 years later.

Simply trying to push consumers to purchase more expensive product with more specs ie faster speeds, longer warranties, etc. So far it seems quality is still there.

People will try to use this as a system hard drive and it it only suitable for storage because it runs at 5400 rpm.If you want a system hard drive a 7200 hard drive is available at the Best Buy store

I was worried about the warranty too but it's been working fine. WD does make hard drives with longer warranties too.

A product that performs exactly how it is described doesn't need a baby blanket for extra reassurance.

I think its because prices are so low

no they are great there is a lot of people that are not so honest and swap the sticker off their bad oem hdd and say its bad to get a free $170 hdd and either use that as well as the 1 they bought or return that and get their money back

It is a standard performance drive for a desktop, and is sold at a lower price. If you want a higher performance drive with a better warranty i would recommend you check out Western Digital's black series

I just got bitten by this, so let me be cynical. The 15-day return policy guarantees you can't get an exchange or refund, because it takes that long to exhaust all the ways of getting it installed if it doesn't work first crack out of the barrel. In my case, it might have worked, but I couldn't get the OS to load on it. By the time I tried everything (including waiting for the computer manufacturer to send fresh OS CDs), the 15 days had expired.
