The one problem might be if If your surveillance system needs a high data rate and you connect it to other than a USB3 port. If your system lacks a USB3 port, you might want to install one to take full advantage.

Western Digital uses the "Purple" line of drives for this purpose. This drive would work fine but is more designed for use in a Desktop. Surveillance systems tend to write to the drive differently and the drive may fail prematurely is used.
