Does it fit the newer brick shaped WD passport drive properly? I'm concerned about the edges - drive has sharp edges and case has rounded edges. null

Yes it fits the new hard drive just fine. The new HDD fits right in the center and you get about 1 centimeter on each side of it. It doesn't move or slide around so I'm not concerned about it not providing proper protection.

The drive fits perfectly but we need to properly fold connecting wires to fit in.
I wish it has more depth to accommodate wire more easily.

Yes. The newer brick shaped WD passport drives fit perfect! (Half Shiny and half Matte Black brick shaped drives) I wasn't sure if it would fit either, since I didn't have my hard drive on hand and couldn't open one in store, so I went ahead and bought it. It FIT!! The sharp edges of the drive and the round edges of the case work together hand in hand.. the drive sits perfectly in the middle just before the case rounds out. It's not a tight fit at all even with the USB cable inside!! I have the 2Tb hard drive so I don't know how the 3 or 4Tb drives would fit.

I purchased the bright blue WD My Passport square drive a few months ago along with this case. The square edges of the Passport drive are a perfect snug fit in the case, and the case itself is not compromised in any way due to the square edges of the drive. There is a small amount of space on the top and bottom of the case around the drive, but it doesn't shift around because of how well it fits. And there's a nice pocket for the cord to the Passport drive as well. It's durable and well made. I really like it and if it purchase another WD Passport drive, I'll be getting this case again as well.
