“I believe Sony now supports playing PS4 games on your PS5 console that are stored on a USB storage device. I know PS5 games require the game data to reside on the internal SSD in the console. Has anyone used this device to play PS4 games on their PS5?”

Yes, the hard drive will only download ps4 games.
