All formatted HDDs are pre-formatted for Windows OS, since the vast majority of computers in use use this OS. They will work on Macs, but have to be reformatted. Connect one of these drives to a Mac, being sure that nothing else is heavily using the CPU, and it should register an error message with a prompt to format. If this doesn't happen within a minute, open Finder and look for the drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Western Digital drives come pre-formatted in NTFS which Macs don't really like. Half they time they can read them but not write to them, the other half they just don't work at all. Find a buddy with a Windows computer you can borrow for a couple of hours, reformat the drive to exFAT at their place, and have a couple of beers and chat while it works. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You might have to format it in EXfat before you can use it on a Mac... Exfat can be used on a PC and Mac. Like share files between the two.

However, it comes preformatted with NTFS format, and can be reformatted with macOS supported HFS+J file system by using this link: "Reformatting Required for Mac OS Compatibility" https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3879 -Need Help?
