• Technically speaking, you can encrypt any form of media. However, out of the box, this is not encrypted. You can use third-party software such as VeraCrypt or Microsoft's Bitlocker, or use an encrypted file system such as LUKS, though you'll need this same software to then decrypt the drive.

• Yes, you can. The easystore HD comes with executable files to install WD Discovery in Windows or Mac to your PC. From WD Discovery, you can install WD Security, attach your easystore HD and password-protect it.
