• I have used it on XP and currently have Windows 7 on five computers. I haven't experienced any problems.

• I have used the WD external drives with Windows 7 without problem. I do not, however, use the WD software. I have used a simple drag and drop procedure and I have used Acronics True Image. The drives work well in either case.

• format the drive, so there is not any softwear on it then point windows backup utility to the drive.

• I'm using it with Win7 with no issues but I am not trying to run a backup program. I just access and save files manually.
