If you format the drive as FAT32 you will be able to use it with both the mac and windows operating systems. Fat 32 however has a maximum volume size of 2TB and a maximum file size of 4GB.

If you want a hard drive that's compatible with both simultaneously, it'll be better to get a cloud based hard drive, that way your connection is the WiFi network and you can access from both
