You always want to back up the stuff you do not want to lose for example; pictures, music, and documents. If you back up.your stuff onto an external hard drive and your computer stops running and you either need to replace it or format it you will still have all your stuff. Because if those things happened and you did not back up you will lose everything.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.When you buy your external hard drive at Best Buy, ask one of the associates. He/she will explain how to do a backup and how important it is. I have three hard drives and back up all my computer files on each one in case one of the drives fails. Give each one a different name - label the hard drive and do the back ups every month or two months depending on how much information you have in your computer. Better safe than sorry if your computer fails.
