“Can this or any other external hard drive be used to replace a laptop's hard drive? I have a HP laptop and it stopped booting up. After having someone from HP trouble shoot it over the phone, I was told that the hard drive was out. Need a solution. Thanks”

Should work. You will need to load the operating system on to the external hard drive and then change the bios to boot to that drive instead of the internal drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you want to replace the hard drive in your laptop, then you’ll want to buy a 2.5” internal drive for it. You’ll also want to make sure you have a copy of an OS, like Microsoft Windows 10, because the drive won’t already have an operating system on it. You’ll want to boot into your laptop’s BIOS to change the boot order of your computer to boot from your cd/dvd/Blu-ray drive first, so that it runs the operating system install disk first. Then you can just point the install to the new drive, and you should be good.
