You can put whatever you want on it. If you're using it for backups, your backup software through Mac should allow you to pick and choose what you want to back up.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you will be able to choose files you want to store.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have multiple portable WD drives. Some I use mainly for backup, some just for files, and some for both. Yes, you can share a drive for BOTH backup using "Time Machine" and for general file storage. Any drive with a Time Machine backup image can be used to boot from too. I have one "set" of twin 8TB passbooks I use for a mirrored RAID system for Time Machine that I also use to store files from my Windows computers. So far so good (since 2011). I have another set for older OS X versions. If I turn Time Machine off, I can boot from either. This cures some OS=X/software compatibility issues. For instance, the version of Quickbooks I have is incompatible with the newer MacOS Sierra so when I need to use it I use the trick above. When done, I power down, disconnect, power-up and turn Time Machine back on with my newer backup drives attached.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I personally have backedup my entire computer using the time machine as well as have individual folders for it such as a regular usb drive, I'm using the macbook pro
