• It works fine without the installed software. I reformatted the drive after I received it and it still works.

• The software is there for your use if you really want it. It isn’t needed for the drive to operate as a USB drive.

• I did the same, don't like any gimme's on my hardware unless I put them there. Have had no issues with the drive since clearing it.

• Here is the problem that I see. IF you do not want an automatic update on the PC or its contents, and rely SOLELY on the restore function, then you should be fine. Otherwise leave to software alone. It is there for a reason.
