“Will this device work if I get an adapter to plus it into my hdmi port on my Xbox instead of the usb port to play videos? I have a 4tb but it will not play all the videos. Inhad to use two 2tb eaststore devices to play all videos through my Xbox one X.”

No. HDMI is for Video Out.
