Storage medium is traditional platters so yes, there are moving parts. And yes, in most cases if there is a mechanical failure, a data recovery center can typically get files back off of this type of hard drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The drive is mechanical. The same rules apply as in the case of a standard internal mechanical drive albeit more fragile. Information retrieval is the same as internal. It can last you years or less determined by use and other factors.
