No. This is an HDD, NOT an SSD. When they allow PS5 games to be downloaded onto an external drive, you will be able to use this to STORE them but you will NOT be able to PLAY a game without first transferring it to the PS5's internal storage. HDDs do not have the required speeds to keep up with SSDs no matter what the product specifications tell you about transfer speeds. But also don't go out and buy just any SSD as only certain ones will be compatible. The SSD built into the PS5 is very high end and you need one that can match it. And even then you will need to use an internal SSD plugged into the expanded storage slot INSIDE the PS5 (which won't be usable until a future update) if you want to play games directly from your extra storage. Playing PS5 games from any external drive will not be possible. Wait for Sony to release an official list of compatible SSD before you make a purchase. Hope this makes sense and helps you.
