“What type of drives are actually used in this product? I've read that some of them come with WD White and some are WD Red. WD Red is the preferred solution for backup solutions. I'd like to be sure I'm getting the right kind of drive.”

seems they are almost always white label 256mb cache 5400 RPM drives 2019 and beyond. Which also have the power pin slightly different not allowing them to be used internally on a desktop computer typically. I was able to use it and make it work in a 4 bay external enclosure.
