You do not need to use the backup software. I use as another drive on e: drive on the system. I have never used their backup software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It can be used like any other external hard drive. You can partition it, or use it as a single large partition. It's basically plug-and-play. Plug it in, and it's assigned a drive letter automatically if you're using Windows. It comes with software for backup, but I don't use it, as it's as basic as you can get.
