Also if you want you can use the Windows USB Icon in the Task Bar to Eject the WD Easystore connection then when you have the chance disconnect the power plug. Be sure to place it in a secure area or where the unit will not take a fall or be exposed to water.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The external hard drive does not turn off, it goes into idle mode. The drive does not spin, and the read arm is parked. It uses very little power during this time, 2-3 watts. If your computer is asleep, then it would not spin. The drive inside this external HD is either a WD Red and the white label made by Hitachi. Both are high reliability drive made for server work. You should not have any issues with this drive failing even with fairly frequent writes. In external HD, this is the drive to purchase, along with the 10 tb version.
