No - there is not an internal Fan - but it is also not a closed up case - plenty of open holes for air circulation - the Specs state that it will operate up to 95deg F.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is One Hard Drive WD 8TB Red 5400 rpm. It has 4 platters / disc of 2TB each. There is No Fan. Its purpose is for pc data/ file storage, backup of any computer (image of its hard drive in case of errors, virus, OS won't boot) or best connected to your Xbox if gaming. There is a You Tube Video on how to disassemble the case from drive (opening it up which is simple) then removing the small PCB "printed circuit board" part of the USB connection. Then you can configure your WD 8TB red for a larger NAS Network Attached Storage or possible RAID config or use as a Server. The WD Gold hard drives are better and the best ones are WD Red Pro that run at 7200 rpm and have a 5 year warranty. The basic WD Red are 5400 rpm with 2 year warranty but unfortunately, Western Digital only made their MY BOOKS and EasyStore using Red or cheap hard drives. If purchased individually 2TB Red would cost $59 each times 4 give total worth of $236. So if you bought on Sale at $160 you did good.
