Internally it is a white labeled re-badged WD red drive 256mb caches and with TLER support. However, I have read some people shucked and had Red drives inside. Also, I have heard there was some issue with certain NAS systems.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well considering that these are external hard drives, they wouldn't fit in a Raid 5 enclosure. However if you want to possibly void your warranty and remove the internal drive from the case I'm sure it would work. Not sure a company would want to risk that though.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not difficult to install, but you probably don't want to get this drive for surveillance. They use low cost consumer grade hard drives in these externals, which are not designed to be used 24/7 like a surveillance drive. High usage drives are understandably much more expensive, so depending on your budget, these will work, but it is questionable for how long. You can read a little more about it here. https://storageservers.wordpress.com/2014/12/08/difference-between-a-normal-hard-drive-and-surveillance-hard-drive/
