“Will this drive be able to save files / photos directly from other external hard drives? Is this external hard drive compatible with PC formatted and Mac formatted external hard drives? I need to combine hard drives into one.”

If you are going to connect thus to both PC and Mac you need to format it ExFat. Both Windows and Mac os can read/write ExFat formatted drives. Only other option is to purchase 3rd party software for your computers. I used the free way of doing it.... ExFat
