Likely not. That's either gonna be a server-side issue or your PC itself not being up to snuff and probably needs a more powerful CPU.

The way to know if your external hard drive is the culprit is if there's massive activity every time the game hangs. The telltale sign being the light on the drive is flashing like crazy when it hangs. Or you can hear the drive heads doing a lot of seeking. If not the USB cable, you may be able to solve your problem by simply freeing space on the drive you have. By deleting unnecessary files. If the problem doesn't appear to be the drive, a hang is more likely due to a problem with the CPU, GPU, and/or RAM.
