It can, I recently backed up a computer with XP and windows 8.1, the files stay separated.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The short answer is yes. If you use a router that has a USB port for a network drive, simply plug it in and follow your routers directions. If not, you would have to "share" the drive to the other computer. If all of this sounds to complicated I would spend the little extra a get a MyBook Live or MyBook World. They connect to your router through a ethernet cable and are ready to run immediately.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This unit has a USB 3.0 connection. Make sure your PC can handle a USB 3.0. Chances are your older PC may not take 3.0. You may need to download drivers to your PC
