The WD My Book is for desktop use. You need AC power. That is, you need to plug it into a wall outlet for power. The My Passport is a a portable that draws power from your computer. It's made to be small and portable. Choose the one that suits your needs best. I never use portable hard drives for long term storage. Too many chances for accidents and loss.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The difference is the passport ultra is very small easy to carry and the my book is larger and bulky...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To my knowledge the My Book 4TB has more storage space than the WD My Passport Ultra 3TB. If The Passport Ultra 3TB has a higher transfer rate and better speed rate than the My Book 4TB that could be one of the reason why it it more expensive than the My Book 4TB. Or It can be the size of Portable that is in saying it is compact and smaller than the 4TB My Book because of that it can be expensive. In which ever case you are in, if you are in a tight budget and don't mind the extra space go for the 4TB My Book. I am too a 4TB My Book owner too and have no problem with it so far. but if you like small and compact, go for ultra. Good Luck
