Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.OK, it is just the design of the case - I have both. They also changed the controller for the USB3, so they call it NEW. The way they format the HD isn't as important, one can change it later, when you connect it to the computer. What OS are you using? That would give you other options, when you re-format the drive. I wouldn't play with other than default - FOR MOST CASES - unless you understand the byte-sizes and much more than majority of the user's need to know. One can speed up the drive by partitioning it to 1-2TB sizes, it also helps little with wasting bytes, but that is a very long explanation for today. Make sure you copy the software that came with the drive, so you don't have to search for it later.
