“I'm looking for a hard drive that doesn't encrypt the files. Is there a way around this? I use it for pictures only. I had a My book Essentials 2t hd and the case broke and I can't get any thing out.”

I use this with windows explorer as a hard drive, just drag and drop files and folders on it like normal.

Sure, Just copy the files to the hard drive. Connect it as an external device. I don't use the provided software. I just connect it to a usb port and copy files to it.

the 8tb WD is perfectly fine, does NOT encrypt files by default although you can set it to (encrypt). hth --
