But, I'll say this; the My Cloud is a primarily a file storage device. The file storage function can be setup to access locally as well as via Internet. It also has the ability to run certain Apps within the Linux/Apache context, but they are limited. A list may be found here: https://www.westerndigital.com/support/software/my-cloud-apps I don't see anything related to home automation. So if your home automation program simply needs a file storage device, the My CLoud is well suited, but it won't run the program itself.
