• The main purpose of it is to copy files to or from the USB drive in bulk. This is triggered manually as one time event, not as a continuos backup process using the USB.

• The USB port allows you to connect an external drive to either upload from or download to. This is the easiest and quickest way to backup or load data to or from this drive. You cannot connect it directly to a computer (neither through USB or ethernet), your computer will not recognize it as far as I can tell.
