It will not connect directly to your Mac, and must be connected to a router. Even connected via ethernet, MacOS at least does not recognize the drive. You must connect it to a router (or possibly a splitter but I haven't tried that). Once you do that though, it will be recognized by Time Machine as a backup disk.
