• Yes. Just press "Command" and "S" at the same time to search. Next type in, "diskutil" and hit enter. From there you have several options to partition the hard drive any way you want.

• No need to split it - set it up to be your backUp location and you will see backups automatically saved into that folder. You can also use it as a regular external hard rive with drag and drop.
