Yes I use it with the newest update on my MacBook Pro and it works great....I have one I use for time machine and one I use as a portable drive but I do think there may be a specific model you have to pick out that is formatted

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Right now Mac formatted hard drives using the Apple HFS+ file system will work with Mac OS 10.12 Sierra. Under the covers, Sierra has a new file system called APple File System, in beta mode, which is expected to be fully implemented in a future release (10.13?). There will be certain incompatibilities between APFS and HFS+ so that data copied from an APFS file system may not be readable on a HFS+ formatted hard drive. But right for now Sierra is supposed to work with HFS+ so you should be OK until whatever is next in Mac OS is released.
