“Does this hard drive require any formatting, or can I just plug it in and turn on the time machine?”

• I'm not using it for Time Machine, but to back up my music and video projects. I did not have to reformat the drive to do this. I use a WD Passport 2GB for my Time Machine backups and I don't recall having to format that one either.

• You can just plug it into a Mac. No formatting is needed. You can also create folders and save items on to it like any other drive.
