The included software allows you the freedom to create/set up multiple backup plans (such as one for a full backup of all files, one of the original system files, and others for individuals areas of your choosing). If you want to create a backup of the system that wont be replaced repeatedly, create a plan for it. Once it saves it the first time, you can end that plan. It will keep the original backup and won't replace it in the future.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, this item will not create a "ghost" image of a hard drive. This will only backup system files or data files within Windows or the MAC OS. Acronis (software program or web based) is a good solution for what you are looking for.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It can be used to back up your entire system, but it does not come with the software to do it. I use a 3rd party software that allows me to boot from CD, so I can make an image of the disk when NOT running Windows. The software that comes with it will do your data/photo/music files, and it does a good job with that, but as I said, for imaging the entire hard drive, you need the other software. This drive is large enough, that I have images of drives from 4 different computers on it. My motto is Backup early, Backup often.
