The drive comes formatted with NTFS which is supported on both 8.1 and Vista. Unless you have a very exotic security setup, you should be able to move the drive seemlessly between the two machines, much as you might a memory stick. Just try to remember to save and close all your files and to use the "eject" menu option in explorer, before unplugging from the machine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I recently used this to pull files from my laptop that uses Vista and I can use them with my new laptop that runs Windows 8.1. I did not need to do any formatting with this hard drive during any of the times that I have used it (almost daily) with any computer or other system that I use it with.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That's exactly my situation and I had no problem at all swapping between computers and systems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It worked for me on XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems without doing any formatting.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Both Windows Vista and Windows 8.1 use an NTFS HDD format and both can read the same disk formats. Both will be able to read and write whichever files you may need them to from or to your external HDD.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can't answer this definitively not having both Vista and 8.1 right in front of me, but there were no big formatting changes between vista and 8.1. Both can read NTFS or FAT, so regardless of how you have it formatted on Vista, 8.1 should be absolutely fine with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.you will have to set up 2 separate backup files but no formatting is necessary
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunately the storage transfer would have to go through to the external drive formatted specifically for one or the other...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you copy the files over it's a simple drag and drop between Windows 7 and 8.1
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No personal experience on each but I don't see any reason it won't. I use mine between my Windows 7 and Xubuntu PC with no issues.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
