A little bit of researching shows it's SMR (shingled magnetic recording), as are all WD RED. WD Red Plus & WD Red Pro are CMR (conventional magnetic recording) source - https://blog.westerndigital.com/wd-red-nas-drives/
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Website for WD blog provided by other users shows that WD Red Plus is CMR not SMR. If the other questions regarding what model number this is (WD40EFRX) are correct, would put this drive under WD Red Plus which is CMR. From: https://blog.westerndigital.com/wd-red-nas-drives/ "WD Red Plus is the new name for conventional magnetic recording (CMR)-based NAS drives in the WD Red family, including all capacities from 1TB to 14TB. These will be the choice for those whose applications require more write-intensive SMB workloads such as ZFS. WD Red Plus in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB and 6TB capacities will be available soon." See attached chart. Hope this was helpful.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The part number will discern which is cmr and smr. The manufacturers web site should have that information.
