“We are going to be using this in a room with no cable box/dish receiver. Will we be able to watch netflix and Amazon Prime with out connection to anything else. We do have subscription to Netflix and a member of Amazon Prime”

As long as your wireless signal is good in the room it will work without any box/dish/receiver. Ours was weak in the room we put the TV in and it would not work. When I brought it closer to our router it worked great. We had to get a wireless range extension added by our cable company. Now that we have a stronger signal in the room it works fine.

I believe you should be ok so long as you have a network/LAN cable. The monitor also has what appears to be a wireless network card although I've not tried cause I'm a wired guy due to thick plaster walls (next to no wifi signal without boosters).
