• You only need the HDMI if you are going to connect a cable box. You can access Roku services from the main menu once you've signed up for Roku

• You only need an HDMI cable if you want to hook up an external device like a cable box or game console to the TV. Otherwise you don't need one if you want to watch apps through Roku.
