• If you don't have cable. You can get the digital channels. Like fox47 is 47.1. There are about 20 free channels you can get without cable. So no you don't need an converter.

• This tv requires a cable box to access any cable tv. This information comes directly from their customer service, after calling them when the tv wouldn't access our cable.
