Teflon coated non-stick (very light weight, thin), shallow metal slow cooker insert. Slightly larger around, but much shallower than regular crock inserts. Don't plan on putting anything very tall in it! Had to spatchcock a roasting chicken just to get it to fit. Lid slightly domed, but not enough to accommodate the size that commercial whole chickens are today which exceed 4lbs. even for fryers. Well suited for chicken parts and not overly tall roasts. Roasts not much taller than a whole brisket and no longer than a whole brisket after cut into three sections. Must remove the slow cooker insert and add the smoker-wood chip holder components, wood chips, and rack(s) to use it as a smoker. No drip pan to prevent juices and fats from collecting in bottom of smoker/unit. Much like with outdoor smokers -- still need heavy duty foil wrap on bottom half of meat or use a foil pan when smoking things like roasts or brisket leaving enough room for smoke to still rise up around the sides of the pan and in which to collect juices and fats.
