Hello pianogirl. You will need to press the vent light button on the left-hand side of the Microwave.

vent and light buttons are on the left, they are touch buttons, start stop and open are on the right, and control panel is behind the door.

The buttons are located on the left side in the front of the microwave.

On the exterior left side of the door there are two icons you press to activate - top one is for the light (high, low and off) and the next icon beneath is for the vent (4 speeds).
