Front sticks out 16.5 in plus the handle another inch. It is 17 in down from the overhead cabinet. and ya, Fits 30 in wide opening. It does stick out and down more than our old microwave but works well for my short wife so she can see in without tippy toes. We are very pleased with it's looks and performance. Installation was a breeze with only my 15yr old son to help lift it onto the rear bracket for mounting.
